Illuminated by the flickering blue glow of a computer screen, Ethan Risso learned of his love for writing when he was barely old enough to reach the keyboard and his idea of a good story started with “Once upon a time…” and ended tidily with a “happily ever after.” Like most children, he had many an imaginary friend. Unlike most children, however, Ethan’s lived in the realm of the written word.
For nearly a decade, he spent his time reading as many books on the craft of writing he could find and writing four novels, none of which he would later allow to see the light of day. Always enamored with the romanticism of writing an epic world-encompassing series, he started writing what would become The Sundered Kingdom Trilogy in 2009. After dozens of pages of notes, he put pen to paper, only to find himself swept up in the journey along with his characters.
Today, Ethan continues to explore the realm of the page and has two projects in development: the third book in The Sundered Kingdoms Trilogy and a standalone fantasy novel.
Questions and Answers
Q: Why have you chosen to self-publish your books?
Short answer: I’m a control freak.
Long answer: When published by a large publishing house, everyone’s fingers are in the pie: marketing, cover design, interior design, etc. With my background in design, I really wanted total control over the finish printed book, so self-publishing was the only way to go.
Q: I don’t have an eReader, how can I read your books?
Each book in The Sundered Kingdoms Trilogy is also available in paperback and hardcover editions.
Q: I’m a writer too! Will you critique or edit my story?
While I am flattered, I have to refuse. I am ridiculously busy writing the third book in The Sundered Kingdoms Trilogy as well as a fourth, as-yet-untitled, novel.
Q: Didn’t you get my e-mail?
I make every effort to reply to each e-mail I receive. However, there is not always time enough in the day, so please be patient. If you think there is a chance your e-mail got lost, feel free to resend it if you have not received a response after a few days.
